Wildlife in the Yard

Although we had a fairly heavy duty thunderstorm during the night, the Weather People are telling us here in central Pennsylvania that the next several days will be pleasantly warm and mostly sunny.  Here "in these parts" I am happy to just hear a PARTLY sunny or even PARTLY anything, as it just is rainy and dreary so much of the time.

So I'm gonna say that Spring has definitely sprung, and Summer is soon to be here.  The kind of pleasant temperatures and sunshine that just make you wanna sit on the porch with a good book and a glass of wine.  Or romp in the yard with the puppy.  Recently my camera captured some of the signs of spring.  We have 7 bird feeders and several blocks of suet out at most times, and we see quite a few pretty birds at our feeders.  We also have a bird nest out front up under the porch roof.  No babies yet.

Last fall we bought and demolished the house next to ours.  It was in terrible disrepair from sitting empty for years with a hole in the roof.  The owner lived in another state and never came back to take care of it, and so the house went up for sheriff sale.  After the demolition, which is fun fun fun to watch I must say, we completed a fairly large landscaping  project.  Everything is nicely blooming and we feel a nice pride in how our property is looking.

Tulips in the front gardens

Lilacs by the garage in the back

Azaleas

We are thankful to have a fairly large yard for an in-town property, because Caleb and his Weimaraner puppy, Sheila, love to play fetch and romp in the yard.  Let me say that Weimaraners are very high-energy dogs, and at 9 months old and 60 pounds, we have learned that to be TRUE.

Those eyes melt me

And last, I will show the latest wildlife spotted, and I AM NOT HAPPY ABOUT THIS AT ALL.

I went back to put some things into my camper, and there on the rocks that surround our camper pad I spotted this garter snake.  I HATE SNAKES!

I am so upset with this snake, and it's as if he knows it, because it took me 6 tries to upload this picture.  None of my other wildlife pictures today gave me trouble.  Have I mentioned that I HATE SNAKES?!

So I'll be outside this weekend, enjoying NATURE, and MOST of the wildlife it brings my way.  How about you?

  2. Beautiful pictures, Jill! Guess what? We just decided to go back to Jamaica for our 30th anniversary! A trip to Rick's is definitely in order! You guys should check it out! Great food, great atmosphere, beautiful scenery! (and scary cliff divers!)

    1. Hi Pam,
Yes! Our resort is not far from Rick's and we definitely want to go there. I've read that there is a restaurant right next to Rick's Cafe that serves drinks and meals more reasonably and without the loud party atmosphere. You can see the cliff divers then go to this other restaurant for a mellower relaxing evening. I will have to find out the name of it and pass it on. When will you be going?

  3. We are going to be enjoying the mild weather in Detroit by taking in a Tigers vs. Chicago White Sox game. My friend Jeff is a big Sox fan.
