Old Stuff in the Garage

The other day we had part of the neighborhood over for an evening on the patio.  Although we had purchased a nice set of patio furniture last year when we had the patio constructed, on this evening we still found ourselves in need of some extra seating.

So, we went and drug some old stuff out of the garage.  Here's one thing we brought out, and I'm having that old Sesame Street tune running through my head as I look at this photo.  "One of these things is not like the other..."

Somewhere along the way, oh, perhaps several decades ago, the husband and I were gifted several old used lawn chairs.  They came from one set of my grandparents.

Those chairs don't break.

Those chairs don't rust.

Those chairs don't die.

Those chairs don't go away.

To the best of our ability, we calculate that the chair you see there in the center is about 50+ years old.

While we were scratching our heads in amazement, Bob took a closer look.  His final pronouncement was, "they sure don't make 'em like they used to."

Even the wraps were in good shape, with very little fraying.

Of course, thinking about my grandparents' chairs brought back other memories of good times I had at their homes in my girlhood days.  I remember sitting on an old glider at one of their homes, on their front porch.  It was quite similar to this one:

Somehow the neighborhood kids and I would glide away the hours, just contentedly amusing ourselves out on that shady porch.  It was certainly a different era.

Recently, I found a few other interesting pictures of other lawn furniture.

These yard pieces have been out there for a quite a while, I'm afraid,

while this lawn chair has been creatively repurposed into something functional.  I suppose it takes primitive camping and bumps it up one (extremely tiny) notch towards luxury camping:

Oh, there's a plethora of old stuff in my garage, and one of these days the GARAGE CLEANOUT EXTRAVAGANZA will happen.  We've been talking about it for years.  It.  Will.  Happen.

Just don't expect me to give up my old childhood purple and white, one speed, Schwinn Starlet bicycle.

Not gonna happen, no way.

  1. I like those old chairs. Do you remember the the canvas ones? Oh that's right, I am a lot older than you are.

  2. I know you know we just moved into temporary digs while waiting to purchase our new home. But do you know that although 90% of what we own is in storage I STILL have half a garage full of boxes here full of stuff?

I am not a pack rat, I swear, but there are just some things. . .

  3. Didn't you hear the old Schwinn single speeds are making a come back. A little spit polish and everyone will think it's a retro. Be Safe and Enjoy the best you can.

    It's about time.
