Starting Without A Bang

Unfortunately, I did not exactly start the new year with a bang.

There was no wild New Year's Eve party.  We spent a quiet evening at home.  In fact, I went to bed before the Times Square Ball even started its descent.

Then, on New Year's Day, I awoke in pain with the nastiest sore throat I've had in as long as I can remember.  Not the most auspicious start to a brand new year.

So I have been laying low these last few days, drinking tea, resting and not really doing much at all.  After the whirlwind of holidays we had here, maybe my body is just telling me to slooooooooooow down a bit.

I did, however, make one New Year's resolution - I resolved not to make any resolutions.  They just put too much pressure on a person, and frankly that's not fun.

I did not eat any pork and sauerkraut.  I detest the stuff, and I already partied with the toilet way too much so as it is from all the holiday food.

I did not give my neighbors any fruitcake, nor did I receive any, which is a good thing.

I did not take down the Christmas decorations yet.  Frankly, I am still enjoying them.  I have been known to leave some things up until Easter some years.

There were only two of the traditional things done that I usually do around the turn of the year.  One, I transferred dates and appointments from my old calendars to my new 2013 wall and purse calendars.  In our house I am definitely the "keeper of the calendar," and should we ever have a house fire, I will first run for my calendar.  Life as we know it here would cease to run smoothly if my calendar were to be lost.

The other small task I accomplished was to look again at all of the Christmas cards we received throughout the holidays.  Sometimes in the midst of the daily December whirlwind they aren't appreciated as much as they could be, so I always go back and linger over each one after the holidays have passed and the company has gone.

Perhaps next year I will create a more Martha Stewartesque way of displaying my Christmas cards.

So hopefully I will heal quickly.  Regardless, 2013 will continue to roll on.

I love having things to look forward to, and I'm certainly hoping this new year contains a plethora of amazing adventures.
