Beachbody: T25 Workout Preview

Sarah, Lance, and Caleb before the workout
Major studies have shown that 30 minutes of exercise can be just as effective at burning fat and even more efficient than 60 minutes of exercise.  We all have busy schedules, and who wouldn't prefer to git er done in half the time?

Daughter Sarah and her husband Lance were in town this weekend for a family gathering, and along with son Caleb, Saturday morning they got up bright and early to do a workout together.  Sarah and Lance are currently in their fourth week of using the new 90 day Beachbody Program:  Focus T25.

Caleb is a registered Beachbody coach.  Beachbody is a large, international fitness company that sells all sorts of fitness workout programs and nutritional items, helping people at all stages of health and fitness.  Currently Caleb is working out daily using the Body Beast strength training program, but on this day he wanted to join the others while they did their workout, and in the process get a good preview of one of the fastest selling new Beach Body products.

There was no traveling to the gym - the "gym" consisted of a small area in our living room in front of the television.

After a brief bit of guided warm up, the 25 minutes of hard work began.

Warming up
To deliver the results of a 60 minute workout in just 25 minutes, leader Shaun uses Focus Interval Training (FIT).  He takes one muscle group at a time, works it to exhaustion, and when you can't do even one more rep, he moves on to the next muscle group..., and then the next.

Planks with one hand touching opposite shoulder
From glutes to shoulders, biceps to obliques, abs to quads, the workout is tough.

Squat jumps, side to side
This workout is a 25 minute full body challenge, without any rest.

Let's be sensible, though.  If you see that picture above of Caleb lowered from a pushup with his knee up to his elbow, there's no reason you couldn't modify the exercise to fit your own current abilities.  Sarah had some major abdominal surgery just at the end of 2012 and modified many of the sequences to do what she could.  Doing some exercise and challenging yourself is way better than doing none.

In no time I was seeing the glisten of sweaty bodies, and puddles on the floor.  This workout is truly designed to scorch fat and sculpt muscle.

Finally, after 25 hard minutes, there was a segment of cooling down stretches.

If you add the warm up and the cool down minutes to the 25 minute workout, you've spent about a total of 30 minutes.  I watched them from start to finish and can verify that this is a good, challenging program.

Caleb's comment afterwards, and we must keep in mind that he's already in fabulous shape before trying this workout, is that "If anyone really follows this program and doesn't dog it, they will get results."

No dogging it!
Here they are, most happy they are done!

If you are interested in any home workout programs like this T25 or even something entirely different like yoga or dance, I invite you to take a look at Caleb's fitness website EpicEveryRep.com here.  There you can get all the information you need, read a daily article about some aspect of health and fitness, and even enjoy some seriously funny videos he has put together about himself and this business of coaching and working out.

I've got my eye on a ten minute a day workout program offered there that is designed for folks who are just getting started.  As soon as I get my clearance from the surgeon relative to my heel surgery, I'll be ready to start a sensible workout.

At my age I don't know if I will ever again have what I consider to be a "beach body," but hopefully I will soon have a fit body again.

  1. That is way too much work for this old body. Maybe in my next life (grin).
