It Only Takes One

Have you ever noticed how so many family photos are ALMOST great?  If it weren't for that one participant that messes it all up, that is.

I was thinking about this reality as I was sorting through the plethora of family photos that were taken of my family last weekend on Easter Sunday.  We were all there, which is miraculous in itself.  I kept looking and looking for the ultimate photo - that one in which everyone in the picture is smiling so purdy and looking so natural.

However, I had to disqualify almost every one of them, for in each picture there was someone horsing around, not paying attention, looking anywhere else but at the camera, smiling weird, not smiling at all, grabbing someone else's behind, or making bunny ears on someone else's head.

And then someone passes gas, and the whole thing falls completely apart.

It was my husband and I, our four children, three spouses, four grandchildren, and one dog.  That makes 14 moving items.  And that's a serious staging challenge.

Let me just say there was more laughing than picture taking and so it was all good, in my book.  Here's one of the best of the batch:

Over the years we have accumulated quite a few family pictures in which ONE person is messing it up.  Here are a few:

Grandtwins Brianna and Tori

Our four children - Sarah, Lindsay, Rachel and Caleb
I won't even tell you what transpired immediately prior to the taking of that last picture.  It wouldn't be blog appropriate.  But of course, there is one person out of order in the photo, as usual.

Just for fun, I did some searching around on the internet and found a few other families that seem to have the same problem of one member messing up the photo.  I'm sure you'll enjoy these as much as I did:

Yes, that baby needs a diaper

I suppose I should be grateful my family likes to goof around with each other.  Lots of laughs and foolery is so much better than this, I suppose:

Smile!

  2. How funny. Made me think about the time my folks sent us kinds (we were adults at the time) down to have a professional portrait of us taken. The three of us got the giggles so bad the poor photographer thought he's never get rid of us. And then there's the time my sister, mother and Dad and I had one of those old western pictures taken. My mother was such a saint and we dressed her up like the town floozy and she laughed so hard she peed her pants. Oh what fun memories. Thank you so much.

  3. A very fun post. Reminds me of trying to replace an ex in the family with a palm tree in family photos.

  7. I think your family photo turned out pretty darn good, especially considering there was a dog to factor into the equation. Our dog NEVER cooperates when we try to include her in a photo! The internet photos were hilarious!
