Dining Like Royalty

Let me just say for the record that while on vacation, we have dined like royalty.

As always, while vacationing in Wildwood, New Jersey, we find time to make our way to our favorite pizza joint, Mack's Pizza on the boardwalk.  The husband says he thinks the pizza is not as good any more as it always was.  I say he's crazy.  I SWOON while eating Mack's Pizza.

How much do we  I like Mack's Pizza?  We went there twice.  Twice out of four dinners.

One of the dining rooms.  We had a table at the window.
On one of the other nights we decided to do as the locals do - we ate at The Lobster House on Fisherman's Wharf in the Cape May Harbor.

Figuring we'd be safe to get a table if we arrived when they opened for dinner at 4:30 PM, we found ourselves surprised by the already long line.  It snaked from the hostess podium through several rooms and out the front door.  To us, this is a good sign of delicious food to come.

Some folks were having pre-dinner drinks on the deck of an old schooner boat out back.

We weren't disappointed.  Because The Lobster House has several different dining rooms and outdoor dining areas, we were quickly seated at a pleasant table for two in the main dining room overlooking the harbor area.  Throughout our meal we enjoyed watching the large boats coming and going, and especially docking.

I got a kick out of the mariner uniforms of the wait staff, who were wonderfully professional and attentive throughout our meal.

The husband had a melt-in-your-mouth seafood sampler platter, which included several lobster tails.  I had a shrimp parmesan penne dish, which also was delicious.  My plate easily had enough food for a family of six.

Every part of this meal was a dining adventure, from the right-out-of-the-oven bread to the tasty side dishes.  Now we know what the locals know, and WE WILL REMEMBER.

Oh, and we had our own little bit of dinner entertainment.  This comical bird perched right out there in front of us and did his little act, from start to finish.  He peed, he pooped, and he preened and primped.  For some reason we were amused.  (I guess it doesn't take much.)

On another night I gave in to my love of diners.  We headed for dessert at the Doo Wop Diner, up on the Wildwood boardwalk.

This place is decorated with all the right 50's stuff, from the decor to the uniforms to the selections on the menu.

Of course, Elvis and Lucy were there, too.

While we waited for our food, I couldn't help but notice the boomerang shapes on our table top. I seem to remember some bathroom or kitchen counters having that same design in my childhood home.  I guess I'm dating myself.

The ice cream arrived, our conversation ended, and we filled our bellies once again.

Just another great day at the beach.

  1. I can remember when I first met the girl that is now my wife, she wore skirts like that. Wow, you guys sure do know how to eat. I love fresh sea-food and when I worked a contract job on the East Coast of N.C. I sure did eat a lot of it.

  2. I agree with your other half! It's still great pizza, but it's not quiiiiiiite as good as it used to be. I guess Manco brought a little something extra to the mix ;)
