Wimpy & Dee's

Recently the husband/lover/best friend and I attended the very lovely wedding of a friend in the Honeybrook, Pennsylvania area.  At its conclusion, we were facing a long drive home in the dark.  Knowing that there was a recommended diner in the area, we decided to have a little adventure before heading home, and find the diner.

If you have been reading this blog for a while, you know I am a "collector of diners."  Well, meals in diners, that is.  I often refer to one of my favorite books, Roadfood, by Jane and Michael Stern, when traveling in any new area to see if I can find a new diner to check out.

"Wimpy & Dee's" is a classic 50's diner, moved to its present location not too long ago from Texas.  We found this to be a very pleasant stop providing traditional diner food and decor, along with  pleasant, friendly service.

We placed our order with Betty, and then relaxed and took in our surroundings.  I loved the atmosphere here - everywhere I looked I saw 50's diner decor and collectible items.  Even Beach Boys music was playing in the background.

While waiting for our food to arrive, I headed to the ladies' room, which was also entertaining.  There were little rooms for the "Guys" and "Dolls."

Within the ladies room, displayed on the walls were all sorts of vintage magazine covers and newspaper advertisements.  Here are some old "Look" magazine covers:

And this girdle advertisement reminded me of how glad I am to be living in the here and now.  Nowadays, I guess they would be called Spanx.  I do, however, remember seeing my mother wiggling into undergarments like these:

Returning to our table, I discovered our snack of frickles (fried pickles) and mozzarella cheese sticks with dipping sauces had arrived.  It was a tasty, hearty snack, and we were soon ready to roll again.  

If you are ever in the area, look for Wimpy & Dee's,  right on route 322 between Honeybrook and  Blue Ball.  My only disappointment in this place is that it isn't located closer to my home.  

Oh, and I never did find out who Wimpy and Dee are.  Guess I'll have to make another trip there someday.
